HeLa cells used in passage of virus prior to 1993 believed to be contaminated with Mycoplasma orale and Mycoplasma hyorhinis. Virus is contaminated with Mycoplasma, which can be eliminated from viral stock by treatment with chloroform or ether.

Size estimated to be approximately 14 nm by ultrafiltration. Growth not inhibited by IUDR. Stabilized by 1 M MgCl(2).
